The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
