He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
