Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 As We fashioned jinns before from intense radiated heat. 27 And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered, 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 Therefore all the angels, each and every one of them, fell prostrate. 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 Said he, 'I would never bow myself before a mortal whom Thou hast created of a clay of mud moulded.' 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 The Lord said, "Your request is granted 37 until the day of a known time." 38 He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one, 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 Over My true servants you will be able to exercise no power, your power will be confined to the erring ones, those who choose to follow you. 42 Surely, Hell is the place to which they are destined, 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
