The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
