And We created you, then fashioned you, then told the angels: Fall ye prostrate before Adam! And they fell prostrate, all save Iblis, who was not of those who make prostration. 11 God asked, "What made you disobey Me?" Satan replied, "I am better than Adam, for You have created me out of fire and Adam out of clay." 12 God said, "Get down from here! This is no place for your arrogance. Get out! You are contemptible!" 13 Said [Iblis]: "Grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead." 14 Allah said: verily thou art of the respited. 15 [Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. 16 Then I shall come upon them from before them and from behind them and from their right hands and from their left hands, and Thou wilt not find most of them beholden (unto Thee). 17 He said: Get out of this (state), despised, driven away; whoever of them will follow you, I will certainly fill hell with you all. 18 And (unto man): O Adam! Dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden and eat from whence ye will, but come not nigh this tree lest ye become wrong-doers. 19 Thereupon Satan whispered unto the two with a view to making them conscious of their nakedness, of which [hitherto] they had been unaware; and he said: "Your Sustainer has but forbidden you this tree lest you two become [as] angels, or lest you live forever." 20 And he swore to them, 'Truly, I am for you a sincere adviser.' 21 So he brought them down with deception; and when they tasted from that tree, their shame became manifest to them and they began attaching the leaves of Paradise on themselves; and their Lord said to them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree, and tell you that Satan is an open enemy to you?” 22 They replied, "Lord, we have done injustice to our souls. If You will not forgive us and have mercy on us, we shall certainly have incurred a great loss." 23 Said He: "Down with you, [and be henceforth] enemies unto one another, having on earth your abode and livelihood for a while: 24 There you will live; there you will die; from there you will be raised up again." 25
