And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
