He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
