The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, "Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink." 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
