The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). 3 Indeed, for the unbelievers We have prepared chains, fetters and a Blazing (Fire). 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 they who keep their vows and fear a Day whose evil is spread; 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
