The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him.
