And We had certainly given Moses the Scripture and appointed with him his brother Aaron as an assistant. 35 and We said, 'Go to the people who have cried lies to Our signs'; then We destroyed them utterly. 36 We drowned the people of Noah also when they rejected their messengers and We made them an example to all mankind. We have prepared a painful punishment for the wrongdoers, 37 Likewise were destroyed the `Ad and the Thamud and the people of the Rass, and many a generation in between. 38 We administered warnings to each of them, and then destroyed them completely. 39 And certainly they have (often) passed by the town on which was rained an evil rain; did they not then see it? Nay! they did not hope to be raised again. 40 And when they see thee, they take thee in mockery only: 'What, is this he whom God sent forth as a Messenger? 41 He would have surely turned us away from our gods if we had not adhered to them." They will know soon who is farther away from the path when they see the punishment! 42 Have you seen him who has made gods of his own desires? Would you be a guardian over him? 43 Do you think that most of them can hear or understand? They are like cattle, no, they are further astray from the Path. 44
