Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
