The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 So made them as maidens. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
