The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 but We see it near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those who pray, 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
