The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
