The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
