Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
