He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
