The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
