The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 It is the piercing star. 3 Over every soul there is a watcher. 4 So let man look - from what is he created. 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 emanating from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 By oath of the sky from which comes down the rain. 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 Indeed the Qur’an is a decisive Word. 13 And it is not a frivolity. 14 They are planning a scheme, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 Therefore give them some respite – give them some time. 17
