Behold! Abraham said to his father and his people: "I do indeed clear myself of what ye worship: 26 [I worship] only Him who created me, and He will certainly guide me," 27 And he made it a word enduring among his seed, that haply they might return. 28 In fact, I allowed them and their fathers to enjoy this life till the truth, and the apostle preaching it lucidly, came to them. 29 but when the truth came to them, they said, "This is sorcery, and we reject it." 30 They said, "Why was this Quran not sent down to one of the great men of the two cities?" 31 Is it they who apportion the mercy of your Lord? It is We who distribute among them their livelihood in the life of this world, and raise some of them above others in rank, so that they may take one another into service; and the mercy of your Lord is better than [the wealth] which they amass. 32 If it were not that mankind would be one nation We would have made for whosoever disbelieves in the Merciful silver roofs upon their houses, and stairs to climb, 33 and silver doors to their houses and silver couches on which to recline, 34 And gold ornament. But all that is not but the enjoyment of worldly life. And the Hereafter with your Lord is for the righteous. 35
