The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and defilement flee! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
