Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
