Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and the ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Join My servants. 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
