The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
