Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) 1 This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 who shall be my inheritor and the inheritor of the House of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, well-pleasing.' 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age?" 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me – in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous, 13 And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
