He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
