The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
