The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, 8 (saying): “We feed you only for Allah's sake; we do not seek of you any recompense or thanks, 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls. 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
