The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 And the lofty roof. 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 none can avert that. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
