A throng of the ancients 39 and many from the later generations. 40 But those of the left hand -- how those of the left hand -- 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin of disbelief. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Just consider the semen that you emit, 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 That, "We have indeed been penalised!" 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
