Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
