۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
