And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. this Quran and worship of Allah), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan - devil) to be a Qarin (an intimate companion) to him. 36 Devils divert men from the [right] way, while they think that they are rightly guided. 37 To the extent that when the disbeliever will be brought to Us, he will say to his devil, “Alas – if only there was the distance* of east and west, between you and me!” – so what an evil companion** he is! (* Had I not listened to you. **They will be bound together in chains.) 38 It shall not profit you today, since you did evil, that you are partners in the chastisement. 39 What! can you then make the deaf to hear or guide the blind and him who is in clear error? 40 Whether We take thee away, We shall take vengeance upon them, 41 or make you see the end that We had promised them, for We have full power over them. 42 So hold fast to what has been revealed to you. Surely you are on the Straight Way. 43 And it is undoubtedly an honour for you and your people; and you will soon be questioned. 44 And ask them – did any of the Noble Messengers We sent before you, appoint any other Gods except the Most Gracious, whom they used to worship? 45
