The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Mount 1 and by the Book in lines 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
