The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
