He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him thou attendest 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And hath fear, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble, pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
