۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 But they, that Day, are in surrender. 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 delicious to those who drink it 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 one of them will say, "I had a friend, 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 Are we not then to die 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
