Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 The multiple and the one, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
