The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
