The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
