Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
