The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
