Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 enter My Paradise! 30
