He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
