Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
