We sent an inspiration to Moses: "Travel by night with My servants, and strike a dry path for them through the sea, without fear of being overtaken (by Pharaoh) and without (any other) fear." 77 Then Pharaoh pursued them with his forces, but the waters completely overwhelmed them and covered them up. 78 And Pharaoh led his folk astray, he did not guide them. 79 O ye Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a Covenant with you on the right side of Mount (Sinai), and We sent down to you Manna and quails: 80 (Saying): Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you, and transgress not in respect thereof lest My wrath come upon you: and he on whom My wrath cometh, he is lost indeed. 81 I am All-forgiving to the righteously striving believers who repent and follow the right guidance. 82 ۞ What made you hurry away, O Moses, from your people?" 83 He said: "They are right behind me. I have hastened to You, O Lord, so that You may be pleased." 84 Said He: "Verily We tested your people in your absence and the Samiri led them astray." 85 With great anger and sorrow, Moses returned to his nation. 'My nation' he said, 'did your Lord not make you a fine promise? Did the time of the covenant seem long to you? Or did you desire that the anger of your Lord should fall upon you so that you failed in your coming to my appointment' 86 They said: "We broke not the promise to thee, as far as lay in our power: but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the (whole) people, and we threw them (into the fire), and that was what the Samiri suggested. 87 And he produced for them a calf: a body with a low. Then they Said: this is your god and the god of Musa, and that he forgat. 88 Did they not consider that the calf could not give them any answer, nor it could harm or benefit them? 89
