The assembly of Pharaoh's nation said: 'This man is a wellversed sorcerer 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
