And when the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown." 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 Depart with your family in a part of the night and walk behind them and let none of you turn round. Go to a place where you are commanded' 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 He said: Surely these are my guests, therefore do not disgrace me, 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 Lot said, "These are my daughters if you want them." 71 By your life O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 So the shriek seized them at sunrise. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 Most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
