And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 But when he came to them with Our signs, lo! they laughed at them. 47 We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us). 48 And they said, "O thou sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord for us according to His covenant with thee; for we shall truly accept guidance." 49 But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. 50 And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see? 51 Am I not better than this lowly man who can barely express himself? 52 and why have not armlets of gold been bestowed on him and why is there not a train of angels accompanying him?" 53 He incited his people to levity and they obeyed him. Surely they were an iniquitous people. 54 So when they made Us wrathful, We took revenge from them – We therefore drowned all of them. 55 And We made them a precedent and an ensample unto those after. 56
